எங்கள் பள்ளியில் ௨௨-௦௪-௨௦௦௯ அன்று "புவி நாள் விழா கொண்டாடப்பட்டது. புது டெல்லியில் உள்ள TERI என்ற சுற்றுசூழல் அமைப்பின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கிணங்க காகிதப்பைகள் தயாரிக்கும் நிகழ்ச்சியாக அமைத்திருந்தோம். மாணவர்கள் விருப்பமாக கலந்து கொண்டனர். தலைமையாசிரியர் திரு.கு.லோகநாதன் அவர்கள் பாலிதின் ஒழிப்பு பற்றிய உரை ஆற்றினார்.
நான் பாலிதின் பைகளுக்குப் பதிலாக காகிதப்ப்பைகளைப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டியதன் அவசியத்தைப் பற்றிப் பேசினேன். ஓவிய ஆசிரியர் திரு.தனராஜா அவர்கள் காகிதப்பைகளை செய்யும் முறைகளைக் கற்றுக்கொடுத்தார். மாணவர்கள் நுற்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட காகிதப்பைகளை செய்தனர். காகிதப்பைகளுடன் நடை அழகுப் போட்டியிலும் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

Students turn Government Middle School into an eco-friendly institution

PUDUCHERRY: When the concept of environment conservation seems to be resonating in every nook and corner of the country, students of Government Middle School at Nallavadu have succeeded in turning precept into practice.
The students have transformed this simple rural school into an eco-friendly institution.
Situated in the coastal village of Nallavadu, nearly 10 km from Puducherry, the 51-year-old school started undertaking clean and green initiatives in December 2008, sources said. In just four months, the students, with the help of teachers, have started scores of activities – for the betterment of not only the school but also the entire coastal village.
It all started with the implementation of the “Green School Initiative Project” with the support of CPR Foundation, Chennai, the Environment Cell of Puducherry and the Directorate of School Education. Ten groups were formed in the school for electricity management, water management, paper bank, solid waste management, sapling plantation, herbal garden, bird watch, coastal club, turtle guards and biodiversity management, headmaster grade-II of the school K. Loganathan said.
“A year ago, a non-governmental organisation donated saplings to the school. There were 20 varieties of saplings, including herbal plants. The students were entrusted the job of watering the saplings and protecting them. They have been carrying out the job with utmost care and the trees have grown well,” he said.
There are a total of 320 students from LKG to Class VIII at the school. The groups comprise students from Standard V as members, while those in Class VII and VIII monitor the activities.
One of the vital activities carried out by the students was water conservation. “We have installed a water meter and the students maintain a record of readings every day. They mark the readings once in the morning and the evening. Through this, they have understood the importance of conserving water and close the taps immediately after use,” Mr. Loganathan said.
Boards had been kept in each classroom denoting the use of fans and lights in the classrooms. The students switch off fans and lights whenever not required, trained graduate teacher M. Pranavakeskar said.
Trained in solid waste management, the students run a compost yard at the school. On collecting leaves and degradable waste in the yard, the students, with the help of teachers, convert the waste into manure and use it for the trees on the premises. Two-coloured garbage bins had been kept in each classroom for collecting paper and plastic separately.
Documenting local bio-resources, the students had been maintaining a biodiversity register listing down the varieties of trees, animals, fish, birds and insects in the village. Feeder boxes had been fitted on trees for birds, according to R. Ilanguirane, In-charge of National Green Corps at the school.
Happy with their accomplishments so far, the students said that they had created awareness among the villagers of protection of turtles.
“We clean the seashore to keep it garbage-free. After learning to save electricity at the school, I am following the same at home too,” said Geetanjali, a student of Class VIII.
Surya, another student, said, “Our school had no trees earlier. Now, there is plenty of greenery around us and we eat our lunch by sitting under the shade of trees. We have indeed learnt to conserve nature.”

௨௬-௧௧-௨00௯, வியாழன் அன்று எங்கள் பள்ளியில் பள்ளி வளாகத்தை பசுமையாக்கல் திட்டத்தின் கீழ் தேசியப் பசுமைப் படை சார்பாக மரக்கன்றுகள் நடும் விழா நடைபெற்றது. தலைமையாசிரியர் திரு.பரமசிவ ஐயர், நான், தமிழாசிரியர் திரு.மு.பிரனவகேஸ்கர், திரு.இளங்கோவன் ஆகியோர் மரங்களின் அவசியம் பயன்கள் பற்றி உரையாற்றினோம். ஆசிரியர்களும் மாணவர்களும் பள்ளியிலும் அவரவர் வீடுகளிலும் மறக்கன்றுகளை நட்டனர். மரக்கன்றுகளை புதுச்சேரி மாநிலப் பயிற்சி மையமும், ஈஷா யோக மையமும் இணைந்து மரக்கன்றுகளை வழங்கின. மறக்கன்றுகளை சிறப்பாக வளர்க்கும் மாணவர்களுக்கு பரிசுகளும் பாராட்டுகளும் வழங்கப்படும் என்றும் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
